Vst : Virtual Studio Technology ( Sanal Studyo Teknolojisi) Bu kavram, aynı zamanda, cubase için hazırlanmış efektler, eklentiler vs için de kullanılır. Vst uyumlu “plug-in” ler, vst desteği olan tüm müzik programlarında kullanılabilir. Bu plug-in ler ses üzerinde oynamalarda, çeşitli efekt vermekte kullanılabilir. Vst uyumlu plug-inler, sadece cubase programında kullanılması için yazılmamıştır. Örneğin bu plug-inleri, “Logic Audio” programında, DirectXter programı sayesinde directx formunu destekleyen “Cakewalk” programında; Steinberg firmasının ses dosyalarını düzenlemek üzere ürettiği “Wave Lab” programında, ve diğer birçok sequencer (sıralayıcı) ve editör programda kullanmak mümkündür. Vsti: Sondaki “i” harfi “instruments” kelimesini ifade etmektedir. Sanal enstrümanlar, cubase ile kullanılabilmektedir. Sanal synthesizerlar (soft synth), sanal örnekleyiciler (soft sampler) kullanılarak, cubase ile çalışmak mümkündür. Bu alanlarda, gerçek hardware synthesizer’la boy ölçüşebilecek yazılımlar “Native Instruments, Steinberg, Emagic vs” gibi firmalarca üretilip satılmaktadır. Rewire: Özellikle, kendine has, sanal, “audio engine” çıkışları sayesinde, Cubase programıyla eş güdümlü çalışabilen programların özelliğidir. Bu programları Cubase’ le beraber kullanmak mümkün kılınmıştır. (Ör: Reason, Re-Birth, Unity vs) Cubase’ in SX sürümünde, eski sürümlerine oranla bu işlem çok daha pratik hale getirilmiştir.
