The control scheme of The Wind Waker is largely unchanged from Ocarina of Time and Majora's Mask. Link's basic actions of walking, running, attacking, defending, and automatic jumping at ledges are retained. Link also uses the control system introduced in Ocarina of Time that allows him to "lock-on" to an enemy or other target. An addition to this basic control scheme is the ability to parry. When Link is locked-on to an opponent and not actively defending, certain attacks by the opponent will trigger a visual cue, a vibration of the controller, and a chime. Attacking at that point causes Link to dodge or parry then counter-attack from the rear or while leaping over the foe's head. This tactic becomes crucial for defeating armored enemies or bosses.

Since its inception, the Mario Party series has consistently delivered enjoyable multiplayer party game action. While there have been many imitators attempting to cash in on the success of the Mario Party games, none have been able to fully emulate the series' balance of good pacing, endearing minigames, and solid production values. As the first entry in the series to appear on the GameCube, Mario Party 4 may represent a big graphical leap for the series, but the gameplay remains much the same. It's definitely a winning formula, but players who have already exhausted themselves on previous Mario Party titles may not find enough here to draw them back again.

GameCube: Spyro A Hero Tail (PAL)

GameCube: Spyro A Hero Tail (PAL)

GameCube: Spyro A Hero Tail (PAL) | HF + ULD + RS | 1.35 GB
Genre: 3D Platformer

Spyro, the purple pygmy dragon, made his fiery debut on the original PlayStation, among the surfeit of 3D platformers populating the 32- and 64-bit eras. Aside from its unique protagonist, who hailed from the opposite side of most fantasy-setting confrontations, Spyro the Dragon strictly adhered to its genre's formula, managing to be very successful in the process. Spyro's 2002 outing failed to re-create that success. Those who endured the horrid Enter the Dragonfly will be pleased to learn that VU Games has, this time around, endeavored to bring its rambunctious reptile up to something resembling modern technological standards. Despite improvements in every conceivable area, though, Spyro still never manages to hit his stride, probably because he's constantly being interrupted by a peanut gallery of supporting heroes.

For all the successful franchises Capcom has brought into the world over the years, it's hard to imagine where the company would be today had it not given figurative birth to everybody's favorite heroic, light-blue tinted robot boy, Mega Man. Since Mega Man's NES debut in 1987, the courageous robot has starred in plenty of classic action games, including two of the best side-scrolling action platformers ever made in Mega Man 2 and 3. In more recent times, Mega Man has been subject to a bit of branching out into other genres, including role-playing games (with the Command Mission series) and card battling games (in Mega Man Battle Chip Challenge)

Genre: Snowboarding

With Nintendo recently announcing that 1080 Snowboarding 2 is on hold for the time being, it's a good thing that there are two other snowboarding games scheduled to hit the GameCube in the console's first few months of availability. In addition to THQ's Dark Summit, Electronic Arts' follow-up to SSX, SSX Tricky, has arrived with new riders, reworked tracks, and a heaping helping of attitude. EA Sports Big, the developer behind the game, has managed to produce a sequel that improves on the original in almost every respect and provides enough new content to keep fans of the original from crying foul.

This newest Digimon Rumble Arena will feature the same brand of 2D fighting as its predecessor. More than 40 different Digimon monsters will be playable in the game, each with its own special, unique moves. Using signature moves will earn you digipoints, which you can use to digivolve and destroy your opponents. The characters featured will be from all four seasons of the Digimon cartoon series, including several secret, unlockable Digimon.

Genre: Modern First-Person Shooter

The games based on the world's most famous superspy, James Bond, have taken a strange turn over the last several years: They've all been run-and-gun first-person shooters. That may seem obvious, and yet the character himself certainly doesn't walk around movie screens with a weapon for 90 minutes, shooting anything that gets in his way. While most of the games haven't done a particularly good job of making you feel like a secret agent with tons of options at your fingertips, these Bond shooters have always been at least competent, with the wildly popular and then-revolutionary GoldenEye 007 for the Nintendo 64 being the lone standout. The latest Bond game, James Bond 007: NightFire, inches itself away a bit from the run-of-the-mill action script, injecting a more interesting storyline and more classically cool James Bond moves into the mix. While any new Bond game seems doomed to live in the shadow of GoldenEye 007, this one at least tries something different.

NBA Street is an arcade-style three-on-three basketball game with scads of offensive and defensive trick moves. NBA Street Vol. 2 adds a new layer of tricks, and the result is a balanced sports game that makes playing defense almost as entertaining as dunking the ball. For every offensive move in the game, there's a countermove. Well-timed blocks can knock almost any regular shot--and most of the weaker dunks--right out of the air. Special steal moves can be used to combat the offensive footwork designed to knock your defensive player out of position and onto the ground. Special passes can be used to bounce the ball off the backboard and out to another player

You can't really blame Konami for churning out Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles games on the frequent basis that it does. It's a highly visible license based on a highly popular Saturday morning cartoon series, and, despite the fact that each and every one of the games produced for this console generation has peaked at middling levels or bottomed out in the dregs of action gaming, these games continue to sell, and sell well. So, it is with little surprise that Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles 3: Mutant Nightmare follows precisely the same formula that the last couple of games have. It picks up during the third season of the TV show, interspersing TV footage into the game between missions and effectively trying to play out like an interactive version of the show.

Players who held off on getting the PlayStation 2 version of Tony Hawk's Pro Skater 3 in hopes of receiving a better version for the GameCube need not wait any longer. The GameCube version of the insanely popular skateboarding game is here, and it retains almost everything that made the PS2 version so incredible. If you don't own a PS2, getting this version of the game is a no-brainer--it's easily one of the GameCube's strongest launch games. But if you own both a GameCube and a PlayStation 2, the choice isn't so clear. The GameCube version may be less jaggy than the original PS2 release, but its lack of online multiplayer and somewhat sketchy frame rate keep it from living up to its full potential.

GameCube: Harvest Moon Another Wonderful Life (NTSC)

GameCube: Harvest Moon Another Wonderful Life (NTSC)

GameCube: Harvest Moon Another Wonderful Life (NTSC) | 1.35 GB
Genre: Role-Playing

Harvest Moon: A Wonderful Life was released in 2004 to widespread acclaim from critics and fans of the series. The living, breathing world of Forget-Me-Not Valley was as charming as it was detailed. Harvesting crops, tending livestock, and raising a family in the quaint, isolated village was a strangely addicting experience. Despite all the various things you could do on your farm, the crux of the game (raising a family) was, for the most part, pretty static, since it was always played from the perspective of a male character. Now, almost a year and a half later, Natsume and Marvelous are putting a feminine spin on life in the valley with the release of Harvest Moon: Another Wonderful Life. Aside from the fact that you play as a female character, life on the farm hasn't changed much, but Another Wonderful Life does bring to light a whole new side of the familiar characters from Forget-Me-Not Valley that fans of the series are sure to enjoy.
